Tenterfield Terrier Club of Queensland
Earth Dog Trial -  Field Day
17th June 2008
Guest Speaker - Mr Ken Eggleden
We had a very good roll up of members and friends for our first Earth Dog Trialing demonstration and training day.  Mr Ken Eggleden, an ANKC All Breeds Judge as well as an Earth Dog Trialing Judge, gave our members a lot of helful information on setting up your own trialing area at home as well as  training techniques.
We have a few photos below of the set up and some of the dogs. All of them were very keen to join in the fun.The smell of the rat urine laid in a trail through the tunnel was all that was needed to encourage the dogs down to work in the den as most of them are from farms and are used to digging out vermin. We expect many of our dogs to gain their earth dog titles with a bit more practice they will be able to start trailling at Durack along with all the other breeds. Christine and John's dog, 'Ch. Tintenara Rum Runner SE,' has already completed  and passed his examinations up to Senior Earth Dog. He is well on his way to the next level which is his Masters and for this he requires one pass. To enter you must complete one of the CCCQ's entry forms and return it along with the required fee of $6.00 first dog, $4.00 for second entry, to the Show Manager, check this out in your Dog World magazine. Christine Bourke can help with any enquiries, give her a call on 07 5424 2112.
Left:  Ken and John setting up the Den, with Margaret taking a few quick photos.

Right: John checking on the dog to make sure he is working the rat.

Below left: Christine calling her dog 'Rummy' out, as he has completed his time and now must leave the Den. Ken showing members watching how far you must stay back from the entrance, as you cannot help your dog in or out of the Den. The dog  must work on your commands.
Right:  Mary with 'Quin", entering the tunnel, he must follow the scent up to the rat and bark or scratch at the contained rat until he is called back.
Ernie, Ron and Lorraine with their dogs getting ready for their turn.
Victor checking the dog does go up the correct  tunnel as there is a dead end one as well, this one has no trial of the rat scent so the dog should not go this way.
Heather and her mother next to Lorraine, then Beryl with Michelle and Ernie, lots of dogs then Margaret, watching from outside the fenced area. Ken, Victor and John are inside the area orgainising the dogs, then Mary and Christine helping with some of the dogs getting ready to compete.
